NexGoal Toolbox: 3 Resources to Help Spark Your Job Search
As a job seeker, we all have a tendency to let current world events impact our job search. Nothing is more impactful than the election of a new President, which occurred here in the United States on Tuesday.
To the surprise of many (maybe not you if you voted for him), Donald Trump was selected to become the next President of the United States of America. Now, we do not want to get into a political conversation, but as mentioned before—many people seem to allow major events like this change their job search efforts.
For some, they could be scared about what the future might hold and do not want to make a change at this time. While for others, they may suddenly be inspired by a new leadership group coming in, and are suddenly feeling extra motivated to start their job search.
No matter what side you are on, you could all use a little assistance to get that job search started. With this in mind, the team here at NexGoal decided to put together a list of three resources available to you on the internet to get that job search started the right way!
Has it been a while since you have dusted off the old resume? Well, as time has gone on there have been major changes to the format of resumes. If you are not up to date on the latest trends and what should or should not be on that resume of yours, you may miss an opportunity to stand out from the crowd.
Luckily for all of you, there is a great resource out there that lets you upload your resume and receive a free resume critique—and we have partnered with them to help bring you this great resource! The critique, as mentioned before, is absolutely free. They do have other services that you can pay for, but if you are just looking for information on whether or not your resume meets today’s standards, you can get that evaluation.

As a former Journalism student, Purdue Owl was always a go-to of mine if I needed a quick resource on AP Style and didn’t want to bust out that book and search through it. But did you know Purdue Owl actually has a section dedicated to job seekers?
It may seem outdated to some to use Purdue Owl for their job search, however, their Community Writing and Education Station (CWEST) has great information, examples and documentation on many areas of your job search. From “Reading and Using Job Ads” to sample documents (job ads, resumes, cover letters, follow ups and more), they have it all for job seekers!
The best thing about Purdue Owl’s CWEST service is that it is absolutely free to use and you do not even have to register.
So what are you waiting for? Head over and start taking advantage of it today!
VIKTRE Career Portal
Are you a former Olympic or Professional athlete struggling to make a transition now that your playing days are over? Or are you a current Olympic or Professional athlete looking to lay out a plan for when your career finally comes to an end?
If you answered yes to one of those questions, then you absolutely need to head over to the VIKTRE Career Portal right now. Before you go, I have to let you in on a secret—I do in fact write for them and conduct a lot of the interviews with the athletes. But that is exactly why I am qualified to make this recommendation to you.
The VIKTRE Career Portal has partnered up with some of the top career services websites in the industry to provide quality guides and articles on career transition. On top of that, the “My Career Change” feature allows athletes to use their “voice” to talk about how they went through a transition to a new career, and provide any advice to other athletes.
It is truly a great up and coming resource, which you can learn more about here!
