One of the most dreaded two-word combinations in the English dictionary has to be, “It’s Monday.” Mondays represent the end of personal freedom and leisure, and the start of responsibility and accountability.

Whether you are an every day employee or a scorned actor sobbing over not winning an Oscar last night, we could all use a little inspiration and motivation on any given Monday.

Perhaps no better source of inspiration is legendary Green Bay Packers coach, Vince Lombardi. Having won six NFL Championships and two Super Bowls, Lombardi knows a thing or two about success, leadership and motivation. So without further ado, here are five Lombardi quotes to get your week started right.

“Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

To be a leader is to be someone who has demonstrated the repeated ability to achieve success in their practice. Achieving success requires passion, dedication and hard work to one’s craft. Therefore, being a leader requires the passion, dedication and hard work that goes into achieving success. You are not born into success and therefore you are not born a leader.

“The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.”

To be human is to be imperfect. Chances are you fail in life many more times than you succeed. However, each failure is a lesson to be learned. The more lessons you learn and the more knowledge you gain from those lessons can be a huge advantage when faced with adversity down the road.

“The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.”

We are not created as equals. No matter if you’re an athlete or employee, we are simply given gifts and limitations that we must learn to work with. If you can’t change how you were made you might as well change how you work with what you were made of.

“Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off of the goal.”

Goal setting is one of the most important steps to take in leading a successful life. It doesn’t matter if they are big or small, what does matter is that they give direction and purpose to your life. Once a goal is set, the challenge then becomes staying focused on your goal and not losing sight of the objective when faced with adversity. Do not let adversity occupy focus from reaching your goals!

“Winning is not everything – but making the effort to win is.”

Simply put, you’re not always going to win or get the result you desire. However, if that’s the case you should be able to walk away saying that you left everything out on the field. There should not be a shred of doubt in your mind as to if you could have tried harder. Pour your heart into everything you do and you will be left with no regret.
